Si Tyra Maria Trono ay isang alagad ng sining, na ang angking gawa ay umuusisa sa pag-alaala, diaspora, at kultural na pagkakakilanlan sa pamamagitan ng materyal na bakas ng pandaigdigang migrasyon, paggawa, at pamana. Sa paggamit ng mga pang-araw-araw na bagay, mga ritwal, at palasantingang dollar-store, isinisiyasat ng kanyang paglikha ang pagpapalibot ng mga sentimental at tatapuning gamit sa iba’t ibang hangganan, ganap na humuhubog sa pagiging-bahaging-diaspora. Gamit ang sining-instalasyon ay kanyang sinusuri kung papaano pumapagitan ang mga sistemang pang-ekonomiya sa memoryang kultural, gayo’y naitatampok ang sali-salimuot na pagsasalubong ng pag-aaruga, komodipikasyon, at transnasyunal na pagpapalitan.
Ang Just a Small Amount for Your Expenses ay isang instalasyon na naglalaman ng mga litrato, souvenir, at bagay sa murang pamilihan, magmula sa Pilipinas at Montréal, upang tuklasin ang pananabik-diaspora at ang pagsasalin-kultura. Naisasalamin ang patuloy na pagtutok ni Trono sa palasantingang dollar-store, gayong binibigyang-hugis ng likha ang mga testura ng pamamalikbayan hango sa mga gawaing pangsalubong. Inaanyayahan nitong pagnilayan ng mga tagamasid kung gaano naitutugma at nailalangkap ang pag-alaala, pagka-sentimental, at kultural na pagkakakilanlan sa pamamagitan ng mga pang-araw-araw na bagay na nahulma sa gitna ng migrasyon, nostalgia, at konsumerismo.

Tyra Maria Trono is an artist whose work explores memory, diaspora, and cultural identity through the material traces of global migration, labour, and inheritance. Engaging with everyday objects, rituals, and dollar-store aesthetics, her practice investigates how sentimental and disposable items circulate across borders, shaping diasporic belonging. Through installations, she examines how cultural memory is mediated by economic systems, highlighting the complex intersections between care, commodification, and transnational exchange.
Just a Small Amount for Your Expenses is an installation that blends photographs, souvenirs, and discount-store objects sourced from the Philippines and Montreal to explore diasporic longing and cultural transmission. Reflecting her ongoing engagement with dollar-store aesthetics, the work evokes the textures of homecoming through pasalubong-inspired gestures. It invites viewers to consider how memory, sentimentality, and cultural identity are negotiated through everyday objects shaped by migration, nostalgia, and consumerism.

Workshop
may utang ka sakin / you owe me something / vous me devez quelque chose is a participatory postcard-making and object-exchange workshop that explores soft debts, memory, and reciprocity. Participants are invited to create handmade postcards using dollar store materials and images, including photographs by Tyra Maria Trono and visual designs by John Mendoza. Each person will make two postcards, one to keep and one to exchange for a cantaloupe drink served. We will collect one postcard from each participant to form a small collective archive. The event will close with an open karaoke session, where people can dedicate songs to someone they love, miss, or feel owed by.
